TYPOGRAPHIC HISTORY TIMELINE

For this project, we were assigned to create a timeline representing the history of typography throughout a specific time period. I was assigned the years 1804-1948. This project consisted of loads of research, layout iterations, and a ton of writing as well. I thoroughly enjoyed creating this, mostly because typography to me has become something very interesting and enticing, I feel like i'm constantly thinking about it because type is pretty much anywhere you look. To research and understand more about the history behind it was absolutely fascinating, and I appreciate the amounts of effort it took to make typography exactly what it is present day.

This layout consisted of twenty panels on five 11x17 sheets of paper. We then used the accordion folding technique to make it more of a book/timeline. Building my skills of folding and gluing were something I wasn't really expecting throughout studying graphic design, and I now have a gained appreciation for this type of technique. To create texture on the background of these panels, I added a paper texture, as well as a copy of an old newspaper to give it more of a visual effect.

Overall, I loved every minute of this project. This is something that I created that I feel extremely proud of, especially because it pertains to a new-found inspiration of mine that I will carry throughout my career as a graphic designer.
